Art, Healing, and Growth Take Root at Main Line Health King of Prussia

Bryn Mawr Rehab Hospital’s Art Ability program continues to inspire creativity and connection across the Main Line Health system. This year, Kelly McQuain, our 2023 featured artist, was commissioned to paint a mural at Main Line Health King of Prussia, bringing the spirit of Art Ability to a new space focused on healing and wellness.
McQuain is known for his expressive work in acrylics, watercolor, and mixed media. His art often begins with abstract washes of color that evolve into layered images drawn from memory, intuition, and personal experience. Much of his inspiration comes from his lived experience with ADHD and a rare genetic neuropathy that affects the use of his hands. He channels this into his creative process, often calling paint smudges and unexpected marks “happy accidents,” which he blends into his work in surprising ways.
As part of the mural's creation, McQuain invited Main Line Health employees and patients to contribute their own drawings and brushstrokes. He drew inspiration from their marks, weaving them into his unique and captivating style. This mural is truly a reflection of the collaborative nature of the Main Line Health community. The mural is expected to be completed in mid to late August.
Just a few steps away from the mural on the fourth floor of the parking garage, another exciting project is taking shape. A rooftop farm is being created to support healing, education, and wellness. The 6,500-square-foot space offers hands-on learning about the connection between food, health, and well-being. Fresh produce from the rooftop farm was shared with the Montgomery County Food Pantry to help feed and educate people in the community.
Through a partnership with Greener Partners, a local nonprofit focused on community health and education through farming, the rooftop farm will provide fresh produce, nutrition education, and opportunities for all who visit the campus to engage with nature.
Thanks to the generosity of the Nerney family, every dollar raised by the Main Line Health Foundations toward the rooftop farm was matched up to $450,000, doubling the impact of community support.
Together, Art Ability and the rooftop farm are powerful examples of how Main Line Health is creating spaces that nourish both body and spirit. Whether through a brushstroke or a planted seed, healing and inspiration are growing all around us.
