Bringing pediatric simulation to life with SimBaby and SimJunior

Bryn Mawr Hospital is advancing pediatric care through the integration of SimBaby and SimJunior, high-fidelity simulation tools that allow nurses to train for rare but critical pediatric emergencies in a safe, controlled environment. Because serious pediatric events occur infrequently, hands-on experience can be limited, making it essential for nurses to be prepared to respond with confidence when every second counts.

SimBaby, which represents a 9-month-old infant, and SimJunior, designed to simulate a young child, provide highly realistic clinical scenarios that replicate real-life patient responses. These advanced simulators allow staff to practice essential skills including airway management, cardiac and respiratory emergencies, vascular access, and life-saving interventions such as intubation, defibrillation and CPR. With lifelike features, from breathing patterns and heart rhythms to vocal sounds and physical responses, nurses can assess, diagnose, and respond to complex situations as they would in real patient care.

These state-of-the-art simulators were made possible through the dedicated efforts of the Bryn Mawr Hospital Women's Board, which funded their purchase in 2025 through proceeds from the Bryn Mawr Hospital Thrift Shop. Thanks to this meaningful investment, nurses are building confidence, enhancing clinical readiness and delivering the highest level of care to the youngest and most vulnerable patients, offering families reassurance when it matters most.
