Lankenau Medical Center

At the close of our fiscal year 2025, we want to acknowledge the “Power of You” behind the generous support of our fundraising efforts at Lankenau Medical Center. Below are a few examples of how your contributions are touching lives in powerful ways. Thank you for making an impact by advancing clinical and research excellence, supporting global healthcare initiatives and providing advanced technology in patient care.

Advancing clinical, education and research excellence

$1,000,000 | Student loan relief for Lankenau Nurses

This year, Lankenau Medical Center received a $1 million anonymous donation to help ease the burden of student loan debt for its nurses. The gift was given by grateful patients who were inspired by the extraordinary nursing care they received. In the first round of funding, 179 nurses received up to $3,600 each to defray the cost of their loans. A second cohort will benefit from the remaining funds next year. For many recipients, the support came at a critical time. Emmy McManus, a longtime nurse at Lankenau, deferred payments while caring for her ailing parents and described the grant as a life-changing relief. Samantha Baldwin-Arroyo, who faced cancer with courage and grace while attending nursing school and now helps care for her mother, said the gift paid off one of her loans entirely. This deeply personal investment honors the compassion and dedication of Lankenau’s nurses and reflects the powerful difference philanthropy can make in the lives of caregivers.

The Joy H. MacMurray Endowment for Nursing Excellence

$309,714 | Lankenau Women’s Board and associated auxiliary support

Our deep gratitude goes out to the Lankenau Medical Center Women's Board and its dedicated Auxiliaries for over $309,714 in support — their largest annual donation to date. Their tireless efforts and generous contributions to several key programs at Lankenau help bring a higher standard of health care to our community in so many ways. The donation funds six projects apiece for the hospital and the Lankenau Institute for Medical Research including supporting our tremendous nursing team, critical research and training efforts at Lankenau Institute for Medical Research, Health Education Center, social services assistance, Labor and Delivery Unit refresh and new hospitalist scholars’ program – just to name a few. Their philanthropy shows a level of commitment that profoundly redounds to the benefit of Lankenau.

$175,000 | The Joy H. MacMurray Endowment for Nursing Excellence

The Joy H. MacMurray Endowment for Nursing Excellence continues to grow with $75,000 in generous support and Joy H. MacMurray’s thoughtfulness in including an additional future gift of $100,000 through her will. Joy’s nursing career spanned over 40 years, and today, she is strengthening the foundation’s ability to honor nurses who demonstrate outstanding care and dedication. This contribution will enlarge the current Joy H. MacMurray Endowment for Nursing Excellence, which provides funding to maintain the annual Nursing Excellence Awards and the celebration. It is also intended to provide a monetary nursing award in conjunction with each Nursing Excellence Award given for generations to come.

The Robert D. Smink Surgical Training Endowment Fund

$1,000,000 | The Robert D. Smink Surgical Training Endowment Fund

Lankenau Medical Center recently celebrated a generous $1 million gift from Mrs. Marjorie Smink in honor of her husband, Dr. Robert D. Smink, whose 40-year legacy as a surgeon, educator and leader has shaped countless careers. Matched by the Lankenau Foundation, the gift established the $2 million Robert D. Smink Surgical Training Endowment Fund, which will provide sustainable support for advancing excellence in surgical education. The fund will enhance the residency program by fostering innovations in surgical training through access to advanced technologies, progressive learning experiences and resources for future surgical trainees. Dr. and Mrs. Smink were honored for this transformational gift and many former mentees, colleagues and current residents shared accolades for Dr. Smink’s mentorship and dedication. The heartfelt tributes reflected the profound and lasting impact of his leadership.

Lankenau’s Medical Mission

Healing across borders

$35,680 | Lankenau’s medical mission to Ghana

In March, a 35-member team traveled to Ghana on a medical mission led by Drs. Lawrence Livornese, Obed Agyei and Barry Mann, among other physicians and staff. Over four days, the team treated more than 1,200 outpatients, performed 60 surgeries, delivered health education to over 400 high school students, and held career guidance sessions for more than 500 college students. With contributions from colleagues, departments and donors, the team surpassed the $30,000 fundraising goal. Philanthropic support funded medical supplies, local transportation in Ghana, expenses for hospital services and team logistics. Main Line Health also donated medical supplies that filled a 30-foot moving truck. This mission brought healing and opportunity to an underserved region and reflected the compassion and commitment that defines the spirit of Lankenau Medical Center.

Remembering Barbara “Bobbi” Brodsky

Remembering Barbara “Bobbi” Brodsky

Main Line Health honors the extraordinary legacy of Barbara “Bobbi” Brodsky, whose deep commitment to elevating care and supporting innovation across our system has significantly improved the health and wellbeing of our community. In recent years, Bobbi’s generosity helped bring many transformational projects to life at Lankenau Medical Center. Her leadership gift supporting the Radiation Oncology Suite Refresh is creating a reimagined space that blends thoughtful, patient-centered design with advanced technology, offering comfort and dignity to those undergoing cancer treatment. Her philanthropy, along with a Foundation match, made possible the creation of a Hybrid Operating Room, a surgical suite that combines precision imaging and operative care for patients with the most complex cardiovascular conditions. Bobbi’s generosity also fully funded the acquisition of the ION Robotic Platform, positioning Lankenau as a national leader in lung cancer diagnosis and care. These investments reflect Bobbi’s enduring belief in care that is both innovative and deeply human. Her legacy lives on in every patient and clinician these projects serve.

We are deeply grateful to you and many people like you who chose to support the Lankenau Medical Center Foundation in fiscal year 2025. Your generosity is advancing compassionate, high-quality care and driving innovation across our campus and beyond. Together, we are making a lasting impact on the lives of patients, families and communities — both here at home and around the world.
