Join Us In Supporting Life-Changing Medical Care in Ghana
Dear friends, family, patients and fellow clinicians,
In March 2025, I had the privilege of helping lead a team of 35 volunteer healthcare professionals, based out of Lankenau Medical Center, on a medical mission to a remote region in Ghana.
Working under challenging conditions over four days, our team provided medical care to nearly 1,200 patients and performed 61 life-changing surgeries. In partnership with other nonprofits, we also helped strengthen the future healthcare in Ghana by delivering hands-on training to more than 600 high school students, providing health career counseling to 500 college students and participating in a symposium at Pentecost University that culminated in a lecture attended by more than 1,000 people.
While these numbers reflect significant accomplishments, it is the individual stories that remain most vivid: patients receiving treatment they otherwise would never have accessed, families finding hope and communities gaining resources and knowledge that will provide lasting benefits.
For our team, the mission was physically challenging, emotionally draining and spiritually transformative. For me personally, it remains one of the high points of my professional and personal life.
This October, we will return to Ghana with an expanded team of 49 volunteer nurses, residents, physicians, pharmacists, nurse practitioners and physician assistants. Over a 14-day mission in a new region with stronger healthcare infrastructure, we will continue our work of providing care to those in need while building local healthcare capacity.
Our goal is to raise $40,000 to support this mission and help establish a sustainable, ongoing program of medical outreach and education in Ghana.
Like last year, your generosity will bring care, hope and healing to patients and families by supporting diagnostic and treatment supplies, hospital services, medical and surgical care and enrollment in Ghana's National Health Insurance program for patients in need. Donations will also help cover critical in-country transportation, security and logistical expenses that enable our clinical team to serve safely and effectively.
Once again, every member of our team is personally covering their personal expenses, approximately $3,000 per person. If we exceed our fundraising goal, we hope to provide financial assistance for our resident trainees who will participate in this effort, gaining invaluable clinical and medical decision-making experience. In addition, we are seeking medical supplies and equipment of all kinds.
